About This Work
The following explains the physical nature and some of the experience of my suspended, highly precise, minimalist sculpture:
  • To me the best minimalism is when maximum experience value is achieved with as little as possible. This work provides much to experience.
  • Each is a precisely orchestrated series of acrylic panels suspended to imply an abstract form floating in space. But the experience is quite explicit.
  • The panels are positioned exactly parallel and equidistant resulting in a consistent pattern that's easily interpreted as a whole.
  • The material is flourescent and semi-transparent to enhance the intensity and perception of a magical inner space. The edges play a crucial role in this.
  • Using natural pendulate forces (momentum, gravity, etc.), each suspended panel moves according to its own regular rhythmn.
  • Acting as a frame for the entire form, a mirror hovers above the work to reflect a bird's eye view.
  • With a kaleidoscope of shifting reflections and overlapping layers, the experience is contemplative yet complex and fascinating due to its mysterious unity
of light, dimensionality, time and, of course, space.
I use many cords and pulleys to construct each
work with pathological precision and control.
